Between ads, AI Overviews, dozens of search features, and algorithm updates, many people are frustrated with the state of Google Search. Plus, Google’s monopoly is facing intense scrutiny from governments worldwide, including a newly launched probe in the UK.
Until now, the question has been whether this frustration would be reflected in Google’s search market share. Well, it’s entirely possible we’re starting to see that – Google’s global search market share fell below 90% for three consecutive quarters to end 2024. It’s been nearly 10 years since that last happened.
Will Google continue to lose market share in 2025 or is this all just temporary? We’ll all be watching closely heading forward. Clearly, 89% is still a stranglehold on search. But could we see Google’s search empire start to fall?
