Good morning, Marketers, and take a deep breath,
I was going to use this space to rail about Google’s still-unresolved butchering of a title for an important page on MarTech. But I learned today that many marketers are telling us that they’ve lost any semblance of work-life balance in the wake of two Google algorithm updates in this busy time of year. That’s hard for us to hear.
This season has always been make-or-break for most marketers, but these are also extraordinary times. Supply chain issues are disrupting sales and fulfillment while a scary COVID-19 variant is on the rise. We can’t defend the wisdom of Google releasing two algorithm updates, one specifically aimed at product pages, during the holiday blitz because Google rarely shares the reasoning behind its decisions. But we can certainly take your side in panning the company’s moves.
Google reps often say they make decisions for the benefit of searchers, not creators and marketers. But one side feeds the other. It concerns us to hear some of you may be struggling and all of us at Search Engine Land hope you take time to care for your health and wellness. We’re with you.
