Good morning, Marketers, and get on the bandwagon.
If you use social media for professional reasons, you might have noticed that many search marketers are infatuated with Wordle, the word-guessing game. Those who don’t buy into the hype might be wondering what the big deal is.
“The idea would be that Wordle brings us all together and allows us to share some intellectual challenges,” Bence Nanay Ph.D. wrote for Psychology Today. That makes sense to me — I believe the main reason search marketers interact with one another on social is because we share similar challenges, especially when it comes to algorithm or platform updates.
However, Nanay provided an alternate reason as well: “Wordle reveals just how competitive and insecure we are. It’s not about sharing intellectual experiences; it is about trying to feel superior to others.” Unfortunately, I have seen this play out in our interactions as well.
I’ll allude to another parallel, specific to SEOs: “In short, whether we do worse or better than average, both outcomes encourage us to go on playing,” Nanay said. What does that sound like to you?
