Good morning, Marketers, who else hates a terrible listicle.
We can probably blame BuzzFeed for the rise of lists-as-articles, but they were usually wildly creative. Far too many listicles lack that creativity (think: those endless “people to follow on Twitter” lists). Ryan Law, in his piece for Search Engine Land, shared five ways to improve what he calls “lazy” listicles.
- Choose novel selection criteria
- Persuade the reader by surfacing your thought process
- Share personal experience to demonstrate credibility
- Lean on the experiences of others when personal experience is impossible
- Make a single, opinionated recommendation
It’s a good list, even if it’s missing some cats.
