Good morning, Marketers, Google is deprecating the Googlebot crawl rate setting within Search Console on Jan. 8, 2024.

The tool was first introduced just under 15 years ago on Dec. 4, 2008, and it will be removed from the legacy version of Search Console in the upcoming weeks.

Google said the tool is not useful anymore in that it took over a day for the setting to kick in, when it was used, it made very little difference, and most site owners never even used the tool.

Plus, Google said it is much smarter at crawling and is less likely that you would need to limit Google crawling your website. Google also added it will set the minimum crawling speed to a lower rate, comparable to the old crawl rate limits.
