Kevin Gibbons spotted the “badge” link on Site Explorer that takes you to this page enabling anyone to place code on their site to show of the number of links they have to a specific page or to their site. As I commented earlier, badges that show off the number of links to a site from Yahoo, just doesn’t sit right with me - I am not exactly sure why. In any event, if webmasters place the badge on their site, it does get the word out to others about Yahoo Site Explorer, which is a good thing. Here is the badge in action for Search Engine Land, plus if it ever stops working, I have a screen capture here.

I sort of like it, and I can appreciate Yahoo’s motives in doing it. It’s a nice jab at Google, as if to say “Hey, in case you want an ACCURATE inbound link count, here it is,” and it also positions Yahoo as a more socially-oriented engine, since these badgy things have typically been offered by sites like Technorati.
As you said at SER, it’s a great way to (re)introduce people to YSE, which, if nothing else, might get people thinking about Yahoo as a search engine again.
wow 143K backlinks already? no wonder that PR update came up with a 7 for the “initial” SEL PR. :)
