The Google Maps Mania Blog reports that Twitter in conjunction with Google Maps has helped locate a couple lost skiers.
The blog post said, “group of technology entrepreneurs on a skiing vacation in Verbier in the Alps lost two of their party.” Alex Hoye used Twitter to send out the request, then found Jason based on the Twitter location and using Google Maps to pinpoint his longitude and latitude, but it seems they are still looking for Rob, at least, we have no update as to wether Rob was found or not.
Alex Hoye Twittered:
Urgent: If anyone has or knows Rob Williams of Dolphin Music’s mobile, please send. Mtn rescue in progress
He later sent us an update:
Jason now down the mountain – rescue teams still looking for Rob
I cannot vouch for the validity of any of these details at the moment, but I thought it was an interesting story.
Postscript: Sadly, TechCrunch reports that Rob Williams, one of the skiers lost in this story, died in a skiing accident. Our prayers are with Rob’s family.
