Snapchat demographic stats: How many people use Snapchat?

Snapchat launched in July 2011 as an “ephemeral” messaging platform. The app, originally called “Picaboo”, was initially only available on iOS. The Picaboo app didn’t take off right away, with only 127 users in its first few months.

A rebrand to Snapchat and release on Android fueled rapid growth. The app then quickly reached a milestone of 100,000 daily active users about a year after launch.

Today, Snapchat has more than 474 million daily active users around the globe. Snapchat reported $5.93 billion in revenue in 2025, up from $2.5 billion in 2020.

Snapchat’s future hinges on markets beyond North America

Snapchat’s growth story has split in two. In mature markets like North America and Europe, daily active users have plateaued or started to decline. North America dropped from a steady 100 million to 94 million in Q4 2025, while its share of the global user base fell below 20%.

The real momentum is elsewhere. Snapchat added 183 million daily active users outside of North America and Europe in the past five years alone. That region now accounts for nearly 60% of the platform’s total user base, and Rest of World revenue grew from $431 million in 2020 to $1.23 billion in 2025.

With 25 million Snapchat+ subscribers generating recurring revenue on top of advertising, Snap Inc. is diversifying how it makes money. Whether the company can keep converting international user growth into proportional ad revenue will define the next chapter.
