Bing Places Expands To Canada, UK

bing-placesBing Places is finally available beyond U.S. borders.

The company announced today that local businesses in Canada and the United Kingdom — and search marketing agencies that work with local businesses there — can use Bing Places to add and manage local business listings for inclusion in Bing’s search results. Before today, Bing Places was only available inside the U.S.

When adding a new business listing via BingPlaces.com, the form now supports the additional countries, as you can see here:

A Microsoft account is required to add or edit listings in Bing Places. It supports bulk upload and agency verification for companies that manage client listings. For more information on that, see the Bing Places FAQ.

Previously known as the Bing Business Portal, the company relaunched it as Bing Places this spring.

How does this relate to Here Prime Places, which was the previous method for getting listed on Bing Maps? It still says on that website “If your place of business is in the UK, Canada, India or Germany, HERE
PrimePlaces lets you add your business on both HERE and Bing Maps. Now
you only need to claim or add your business once for it to appear on
    multiple services”. – http://here.com/help/primeplaces/general

This is good news, even if it is surprisingly long overdue. It was crazy that you had to use Here PrimePlaces to get a listing; makes much more sense to offer direct registration. It will still be worth getting listed on PrimePlaces but it took quite some time before PrimePlaces listings appeared on Bing so this should speed up the process somewhat.

Thanks Matt for sharing. Nyagoslav has some good comments: http://www.ngsmarketing.com/bing-places-finally-available-outside-us/. I’ve been using YellowPages.ca as a work around for Canada for some time.

Hopefully this will be easier to manage than Google Paces. Editing info, verifying the page owner and trying to sort out of all the managers has been a headache with the Google Places pages I manage.
