comscore-logoDesktop search activity continues to rebound, and was up 12 percent year-over-year in June according to the latest comScore qSearch data just out today.

ComScore estimates that there were 19.2 billion “core” desktop searches last month. That’s down four percent from the 20 billion searches in May. But it’s a 12 percent increase from June 2012. And it’s also the fourth straight month that desktop search has seen a double-digit rise year-over-year.

Both Google and Bing are seeing more desktop searches now than a year ago. ComScore’s data suggests a 28 percent gain in core search on Bing between June 2012 and June 2013, and a 12 percent rise for Google.

Market Share

As far as market share goes, comScore is reporting flat monthly numbers for Google and a 0.5 percent gain in Bing’s market share. But that’s coming at Yahoo’s expense, which dropped by the same 0.5 percent.

Google’s market share is also flat year-over-year — it was 66.8 percent in June 2012 and 66.7 percent last month.

Bing, however, has grown from 15.6 percent last year to the current 17.9 percent. Again, that growth appears to be coming mostly at Yahoo’s expense. It fell from 13 percent in June 2013 to 11.4 percent last month.
