Top Google Doodles Of 2014: World Cup & Winter Olympics Logos Lead The List
Google's top logos included everything from NASA's Philae lander and the Rubik's cube, to Nelson Mandela, Audrey Hepburn and Halloween.
The Google Doodle team was busy this year.
By my count, the artist, illustrators and designers who create the Google logos celebrating notable events and personalities posted more than 100 Doodles in 2014. (The World Cup held reign for a full month on Google’s homepage, with more than 60 Doodles to mark the soccer tournament from its first match on June 12 through the finals on July 13.)
Not only did the team make outstanding efforts to cover numerous events, Google paid special attention to the previous gap between its number of male-focused and female-focused logos.
After female advocacy group SPARK revealed only 77 women were represented in 445 Google Doodles between 2010 and 2013, Google made a concentrated effort this year to represent both genders equally. By February 1, Google had featured author Zora Neale Hurston, Dian Fossey and Harriet Tubman.
As part of its 2014 Year in Review, Google curated the following list of the top ten trending Doodles in 2014 that included a healthy mix of events, people and holidays.
