While the iPad is neither a PC nor a “mobile” device exactly, Yandex said that the behavior coming from iPad users was more like PC user behavior than that of smartphone owners:

iPad users make as many search queries as, and even slightly more than, PC users, and significantly more than mobile phone users. The share of long search sessions on iPads is slightly smaller than the share of long search sessions on PCs, but it is substantially larger than the share of long search sessions performed on mobile phones. Unlike smartphones, tablets are more likely to be used for lengthy online search sessions.

Consistent with other tablet findings, iPad usage in Russia spikes in the evenings and on weekends. In addition Yandex said iPads are used primarily at home. This is in line with data on iPad usage from North America.

In terms of subjects and topics of interest to iPad users Yandex found they were most interested in travel and topics related to home. They also shopped for products and services. “They are less interested in games, social networking and entertainment websites,” explained Yandex. However other studies have shown that entertainment and games are popular with US iPad owners.

In a related piece of news, a North American survey from ad network InMobi found that 30 percent of respondents were interested in buying a new iPad3 but many would also buy an iPad2 at a reduced price.
