Google announced (and here) the acquisition of Postini, a software security for electronic communications company for $625 million.
Google said that this company would become a division of Google Apps. They will help secure Google Apps including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Talk, Calendar and Google’s other applications.
“With this transaction, we’re reinforcing our commitment to delivering compelling hosted applications to businesses of all sizes. With the addition of Postini, our apps are not just simple and appealing to users — they can also streamline the complex information security mandates within these organizations,” said Eric Schmidt, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Google.
Postini currently serves 35,000 businesses and 10 million users worldwide and said they will continue to service these customers. You can read Postini’s press release here and Google’s press release here.
