Google Search App & Chrome Now Serving Up App Content Directly In Search Results On iOS Devices

A handful of apps, including HuffPo, OpenTable, Pinterest and YouTube, will now appear in Google search results on iPads and iPhones.

Since its announcement last week that developers could get their apps indexed to display in search results on iOS devices, Google is now rolling out the update so that in-app content will appear in Google app or Chrome search results on iPhones and iPads.

According to the announcement, users will have to be signed in to to see the app content, and only a “handful” of apps are currently indexed, including Eat24, Free Dictionary, Huffington Post, OpenTable, Pinterest, SeatGeek, Slideshare, Tapatalk, Yellow Pages, YouTube and Zillow for the U.S.

Here’s how the app content will look in search results on an iPhone specifically within the Chrome browser or Google Search App:

Users will be able to launch an app already downloaded to their iPhone or iPad from the search results, as well as find new apps when searching relevant phrases. For example, a search for “word games” would return a list of apps that could be installed directly from the search results.

Google says it is currently working to add more apps, and listed a number of international apps already indexed in addition to the U.S. apps, including: Biblia JFA Offline and Letras in Brazil; Cookpad and Tabelog in Japan; Domain in Australia; and, eBay Kleinanzeigen in Germany.
