Known as the Father of Modern Yoga, Iyengar played an integral role in bringing yoga to the West.
Today’s Google home page honors the man credited for helping yoga take root in the West, B.K.S. Iyengar.
Known as the Father of Modern Yoga, B.K.S., short for Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja, would have been 97 years old today. Iyengar wrote a number of yoga philosophy books, and his style of yoga — centered on control and discipline — is practiced around the world.

Googler Kevin Laughlin designed three animated versions of the Iyengar Google logo, each with Iyengar in one of his master poses (or “asanas”). The logo is displayed on nearly all of Google’s international home pages and leads to a search for BKS Iyengar.
