Brave Search Rerank lets you boost or remove sites from search results

Brave is letting you personalize your search results by giving a thumbs up or thumbs down to any domain.

Brave Search today announced Rerank, which lets you “raise” (boost) or “discard” (remove) websites from its search results, is available to all users.

How it works. When you search on Brave, a Rerank panel will appear. Users can give a thumbs up or thumbs down on any website in search results.

A thumbs up will boost a site’s rankings and thumbs down will result in that website no longer appearing. You can undo a thumbs up or down at any time.

No algorithmic ranking impact. According to Brave:

  • “Use of Rerank will not change domain presence or ranking for other users or on Brave Search as a whole—Rerank only applies for the users who choose to use the feature, and only on that user’s device.”

What it looks like. Here’s a screenshot of Brave’s Rerank:

Why we care. This won’t impact your SEO strategy in any way. However, this is a nice feature that gives Brave users the ability to personalize their search results based on their preferences and get rid of any websites that consider to be unreliable or low-quality.

The announcement. Introducing Rerank: a fast, easy way for users to customize Brave Search rankings

Similar to old Google feature. Google once had a similar feature (from 2011-2012) that let you hide or block certain sites from showing up in search results. Google said it introduced this feature because they believed “giving you control over the results you find will provide an even more personalized and enjoyable experience on Google.”

By the numbers. Brave reported that it now sees 38 million queries per day and more than 1.2 billion queries per month.
