Google AI Mode tests clearer labels for sponsored and organic shopping results

Google is testing a new shopping results layout in AI Mode, introducing separate “Sponsored” and “All products” headings to make paid and organic product listings easier to distinguish.

What’s changing. Google has been testing product layouts in AI Mode that display sponsored and organic listings together within the same shopping experience.

The latest design introduces two distinct headings:

  • Sponsored: Identifies paid product listings.
  • All products: Identifies organic product listings.

Previously, paid and organic products appeared in a more blended layout, with individual listings labeled according to their status.

The new design adds clearer section-level labels while keeping products within the AI Mode experience.

Why we care. The test comes as Google expands advertising opportunities within AI Mode. More prominent sponsored labels could influence how shoppers interact with product listings, particularly when comparing paid placements with organic recommendations.

For ecommerce advertisers, the layout is worth monitoring because presentation can affect how users discover, evaluate and click on products.

However, there is currently no evidence that the new headings improve or reduce ad engagement.

Google’s response. Google confirmed that this format is part of ongoing experiments with ads in AI Mode.

‘Shopping Ads can appear alongside organic visual search results within carousels for commercially relevant queries. All sponsored listings are labeled as “Sponsored”.’ says a Google spokesperson.

The bottom line. Google is testing separate “Sponsored” and “All products” headings in AI Mode to make paid and organic shopping results easier to identify. The change is currently a visual experiment, with no confirmed rollout or demonstrated impact on advertising performance.

The change was spotted by Sachin Patel, Senior Reporter at Search Engine Watch.
