Google Trends email subscriptions to stop working on October 29

This comes shortly after Google updated the user interface for the trending now results.

Chat with SearchBot

Google Trends will stop sending emails for subscriptions you set up within Google Trends. Google said it is turning down the email subscription service as of October 29, 2024.

Instead, Google says you should use RSS feeds or check the site manually for those alerts.

What Google said. Google wrote in an email to those impacted, those who have email subscriptions set up for Google Trends, saying, “Starting on 29 October 2024, Google Trends trend notifications will no longer be supported and existing alerts will no longer be sent. In addition, creating new trend alerts using the subscription page will no longer be possible.”

Alternatives. Google said, instead of the email subscriptions, “there are alternative ways to access trending information:”

  • Homepage Newsletter: Visit the Google Trends homepage to sign up for our daily newsletter and receive the latest trends in your inbox.
  • RSS Feed: Subscribe to the RSS feed for real-time updates on trending topics.

More details. Google added the email subscription service to Google Trends a decade ago. Google said back then, “it’s easier to get just the right insights at just the right time with email notifications.” Well, I guess no longer.

RSS and the homepage newsletter do not give you all the same features as the email subscription option.

The email. Here is a screenshot of this email from Kavir posted on X:

Why we care. If you use this option to stay on top of your industry trends and changes, then you may want to look for other ways to stay on top of these trends. You have several weeks to try new things, so try them now.

I also hope this does not mean that Google Alert email subscriptions are going away anytime soon. Google Alerts lets you subscribe to searches and news feeds via email RSS and other means.

I should note, Google recently updated the trending now page.
