Google Barcode Logo Celebrates Anniversary Of Barcodes

google-barcode

No, Google is not for sale. (At least as far as we know.) That barcode logo on the Google home page and its search results pages is in honor of the 57th anniversary of the barcode being patented: October 7, 1952 to Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver.

If you’re thinking that Google’s really upped its pace of publishing special logos lately, I’d have to agree. A quick glance at our Google Logos archive suggests this is at least the seventh Google doodle in the last month.

osbro,

Thanks for that! In fact when I came across it I thought something was wrong with the way my browser was displaying the browser window (e.g. CPU 100%). I couldn’t think of anything reasonable why google would change their logo to a barcode. It makes sense now!

Livemercial Sarah,

Yes, thank you for the clarification! I was wondering that all day and also thought I might have a browser issue on my hands. Short, concise and very informational post for those of us who were clueless!
