Google Play Gets “May The Fourth Be With You” Home Page Link On Star Wars Day
The streaming service could benefit big from the prominent Star Wars Day link on Google.com.
Google Play is well positioned for a very happy Star Wars Day.
While Bartolomeo Cristofori, inventor of the piano, holds court on the Google.com homepage this May 4, the search engine’s homepage is also paying homage to Star Wars Day — with a plug for Google Play.
The official slogan for the unofficial Star Wars Day, “May the Fourth be with you”, appears in a link below the search box. The link leads to the selection of Star Wars movie offerings available on Google Play.
This isn’t the first time Google has used the home page to promote its products. The company featured links to Android phone products, including the Nexus One.
When the Nexus One promotion went live, way back in 2010, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster calculated the value of that placement on Google’s homepage was worth between $4 and $5 million — based on a $15 or $20 CPM — if it had had to be bought.
