Google’s home page is currently broken on some Android devices using Firefox mobile as a browser. The Google home page loads a blank screen.

Google confirmed the issue and is working on a fix.

What Google said. Google posted the issue on its search status dashboard saying, “There’s an ongoing issue with the Google homepage for Firefox users on Android devices. The issue has no effect on sites’ appearance in Google Search. We’ve identified the issue and we’re working on a fix. Next update will be within 12 hours.”

What is the issue. Based on complaints both in the Google forums and Reddit, searches who use Firefox on Android devices are seeing blank or partially empty Google home pages. Here are some screenshots:

Google will fix. Google wants searchers to be able to search Google from its home page and I suspect this bug will be fixed shortly.

The impact. This does not impact rankings or indexing but it can impact your traffic. Figure for now, your Android Firefox users will not be able to easily find you using Google Search. But I suspect that is a small percent of your overall traffic.

Why we care. If you notice a drop in traffic from that segment of users, then this is why. Don’t worry, this is an issue on Google’s end and there is nothing for you to do.

Fixed at 12:33 pm ET. Google posted an update at 12:33 pm ET saying “We fixed the issue with the Google homepage that affected Firefox users on Android devices. There will be no more updates.”
