Google to host fundraising launch for new X Prize by the San Jose Business Journal reports that Google will kick off the second fundraising campaign for the X Prize Foundation with a gala event at the Googleplex in Mountain View, complete with prizes and celebrity appearances.


X Prize is an organization that has a mission to “create radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity.” In 2004, SpaceShipOne Won the first prize, the Ansari X Prize, winning $10 million for launching the first privately built spacecraft.

X Prize president Tom Vander Ark, said that hosting the event at Google will “raise awareness within the upper echelons of the technology, research, engineering and investment communities of a dozen new prizes we will be unveiling in the next few years to encourage innovations in areas such as fuel consumption, water, medicine and more.”
