Google quashes mobile phone talk from The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Google is pushing back on earlier reports of building its own cell phone.
Richard Kimber, managing director of sales and operations of Google South-East Asia, was quoted at the Search Engine Room conference in Sydney as saying: “At this point in time, we are very focused on the software, not the phone.”
This echoes recent comments from Google’s chief internet evangelist Vinton Cerf. Cerf said that building out a phone would change Google’s business model — Google is in the software business and not the hardware business.
