Google Search Console performance reports gets multimodal filter

Google is rolling out a new search type web filter in the Google Search Console performance report for “multimodal.” This filter will let you see how people find your content within Google Search by using visual and multimodal experiences, such as Google Lens.

What Google said. Google wrote on the Search Central blog, “Today, we are excited to introduce Search Console reporting for web multimodal search, in the report for performance on Search results as well as in the report for Generative AI features.”

“We believe this new data will help you better understand your site’s performance in the modern search landscape and optimize your visual content,” Google added.

What it does. This lets you filter the search performance reports by multimodal experiences. It shows you how your content is shown in Google Search when users search using images. The data reported in this filter includes searches with Lens, Circle to Search on Android, image uploads to Google Search, and the Chrome right-click “Search this image” feature, Google explained.

What it looks like. Here is a screenshot of this feature:

Roll out. Google said multimodal search data in Search Console is rolling out globally starting today. You will start seeing these metrics in your Performance report if your site is receiving traffic from these queries, Google added.

Why we care. This gives you more insights into how people are finding your content within Google Search. The more data we get from Google, the better. And we never had the ability to see if people are finding our content using multimodal search features.

But we still do not have click or query data in the generative AI search performance report.
