Last week, Google began removing the review stars from the search results. We asked Google if this is a bug or intentional.
Did you notice a drop in your index count within the Sitemap reports in the Google Search Console? No need to worry, it may be a Google bug.
It's not just you, many webmasters are reporting seeing index counts fall in the Sitemaps report within the Google Search Console. Google is working on a fix.
Google said a fix was rolling out and that the work was completed Sunday, March 29. See updates below.
Many web sites this morning noticed Google labeled their sites as being hacked and dangerous in the search results. The issue was not with their web sites but rather the Google hacked sites classifier.
A Google bug breaks the Trending Topics feature in Google News. A fix is coming soon, says Google's Stacie Chan.
Google Now has a bug where informational cards are not being displayed to some users. Plus, Google Now is testing geographically relevant background themes.
Fix comes just a week after the initial roll out.
Paid search management is demanding enough without platform connectivity issues. Over the past weeks, several AdWords users have taken to Twitter to complain about ongoing issues with what’s come to be known as the “red bar of death”. The red banner looks like this: Last week, there was a widespread issue that affected user’s ability […]
A funky thing happened today on Bing. Depending on your location, it appears, Bing returned search results with either nearly all ads or the opposite, just organic results. All Paid With the exception of image search results and related search suggestions, the only results on a search for “jeans” were ads. Below is a desktop […]
Some Google+ elements have disappeared from Knowledge Graph boxes that appear in Google search for some brands, but Google says this is a bug that’s being fixed. The bug only impacts the Knowledge Graph box appearing on the right side of the search results page. If the brand has a Google+ page, then some Google+ elements are […]
After more than 200 comments on a Google Search Help Forum thread last week, reporting a glitch that caused an older version of Google’s search page to display in certain browsers, a Google employee claimed there was no glitch at all. According to Googler Nealem, the page was working just fine. The Google employee left […]
This morning, for a few hours, searchers looking for images using Google Image search were presented with an image of a Russian automobile accident in the search results. Searching for dogs to cats, screen shots to flowers and diapers to pornography were all presented with the same image of an accident in Russia. The issue […]
There are hundreds of complaints within the webmaster and SEO community around the Structured Data report within Google Webmaster Tools showing massive drops in structured data elements being shown. The good news is that everyone seems to be affected by the issue and that Google’s John Mueller said on Google+ that Google has “been looking […]
Anyone else have @Adwords conversion tracking fail over the weekend? #ppcchat — Jason Manion (@JasonManion) June 2, 2014 Many AdWords users logged in to their accounts on Monday to find conversion and revenue stats were nearly non-existent starting Friday, May 30. Google has said the problem has been fixed and was merely a reporting issue, […]
Google Authorship is once again down for the count, second time within a one-week period. Authorship is the image you see next to the Google results of those who wrote the article, blog post or news story. Normally, Google’s search results are sprinkled with them, but now, no search results are showing the authorship rich […]
For the past 20 minutes, if you search anything on Google, the authorship images, where it shows a picture of the individual who wrote the content shown in the Google results, no longer shows up. Here is a picture of what a search results look like with authorship images (was documented yesterday): Here is what […]
If you try to search Yahoo News for [new york], you will be out of luck. Yahoo News is returning an error that reads “we did not find results for: new york.” Here is a screen shot: Other states do work, such as Florida or California, but not New York. Why? We are not sure, […]
Lorem Ipsum is boilerplate text commonly used by the design community to illustrate how the text on a website or print design will look within the visual graphical creatives. It turned out that the boilerplate text of Lorem Ipsum was used on every webpage, according to Google. On Friday, Gabriela Vatu picked up on the […]
Earlier this week, we reported a glitch in Google Search, where clicking on a link after a search for Gmail listed someone’s email address, complete in a window ready to send them email. With today’s Gmail outage, that error — never fixed — has resulted in at least one person getting thousands of unwanted emails. […]
Google’s Search By Image feature is currently not functioning for many searchers. The search by image feature allows a searcher to take an image from their computer or plug in an image source URL into Google Images and Google will return related images, with web pages that may have more information about the image. The […]
Google has confirmed that there are current issues with displaying authorship rich snippets on “very few sites.” A Google spokesperson told us “it’s something we’re actively working on” but that “it affects very few sites” on the Internet. This is a topic I’ve personally been tracking very closely, as my own site is impacted by […]
Last week, we began seeing complaints of the Google Webmaster Tools “Links To Your Site” report showing 80% or less of the number of links that should be displayed. Yesterday, I noticed the issue myself, and today, Google confirmed this is a reporting bug. In short, tons of webmasters who analyze their links using Google […]
There’s a strange bug on Google where search queries that should return no matches are instead turning Google into a porn search engine, almost as if an “anti-SafeSearch” feature is being enabled. Impossible Queries = Porn! The Verge highlighted a Quora post about the bug, where doing some searches for “contradictory” or impossible to solve […]
Over the past week or so, we’ve been hearing reports of the number of links being reported within Google Webmaster Tools drastically changing from what it was days before the change. Last week, we received some reports of Google increasing the number of links being reported in the tool. This week, we are seeing dozens […]
UPDATE: As of January 23, Google said it has fixed the problem and past data should be restored “in the coming days.” Google has confirmed a bug that causes conversions from Google Analytics to not be imported into AdWords properly, which can cause issues with any campaigns using this data for optimization. The bug has been reported by […]
Google has deep pockets and probably would be happy if Facebook, eBay and Craigslist were part of its empire … but last I checked, they’re all separate companies. Nonetheless, links to those three sites are showing as Deep Links on Bing under the Google.com result when you search for [google]. The “Go to YouTube” link […]
A security bug in Google Webmaster Tools has given users access to old accounts and websites that they’re no longer supposed to be able to access. The problem was discovered Tuesday and reported on several SEO blogs and news outlets — including (first, I believe) by Dave Naylor — and was discussed pretty heavily by […]
Google is aware of, and working on a fix, for a bug in how it displays business URLs from Google Maps. As SIM Partners reported yesterday, local business listings on Google.com are showing links to maps.google.com — the URL for the business’ old Place page — rather than showing links to the business’ website. Here’s […]
I was surprised to see a promotion for Google’s “Search Plus Your World” feature turn up in my search results today. I was even more surprised that even after I dismissed it, the promo returned at least twice more. It’s Not Your Imagination Apparently, I’m not the only one. I can see others on Twitter complaining about […]
It appears Google is testing showing fewer than the typical 10 web search results, in what might either be a test or possibly a bug. I spotted complaints in a WebmasterWorld thread where searchers were asking why is Google limiting the results for a search query on Google UK for bbc football, such as shown: […]
Last week, we saw some reports of people finding they can’t search on Google unless they accept cookies. Google confirmed to us there was a bug causing this that’s now been fixed. Google emailed us: This was a bug that was flagged and the team quickly resolved on Thursday. We apologize for any inconvenience. A […]
“I’m standing in front of a Planned Parenthood,” the CNN reporter says, “And Siri can’t find it when I search for abortion clinic.” No, it can’t. It’s not because Apple is pro-life. It’s because Planned Parenthood doesn’t call itself an abortion clinic. Welcome To Search Scandals, Apple It’s been interesting to watch the Siri Abortiongate […]
Observant users of Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool have noticed something odd in recent days — when you do an exact match search on certain terms, the volume reported is zero. Surely someone has been searching on terms like wine, iPod, and dogs. Indeed, a Google spokesperson confirms that it’s a bug. “We’re aware of a […]
This morning Alex Moss reported a weird bug with Google Analytics where going to the “landing page” or “exit page” reports and clicking on the URL would pop open a random site, instead of the URL of that page. Here is a screen shot shared by @SEOsherlock. Alex Moss claimed this was a privacy issue […]
This morning, James Breckenridge discovered a loophole within Google’s Webmaster Tools that allowed anyone to remove any site from Google. Both James and I sent this information to Google as soon as we heard of it. After several hours, Google has told us, “we’re still investigating this report, and to be cautious we disabled all […]
The irony of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg being the most followed person on Google+ is over. He’s disappeared from the top rankings, along with Google CEO Larry Page who was the second most followed and other Google execs. It’s down to a glitch, Google says. Google+ allows you to show the number of people you […]
Google has fixed a bug that temporarily made Knol look like a ghost town this week. And, without exactly providing a ringing endorsement of its article writing service, Google says it is still supporting Knol. The Google Operating System blog suggested yesterday that Google had “abandoned” Knol and questioned if Google should or would shut […]
All Google AdWords advertisers know the importance of having a good quality score on Google. A poor quality score can result in your cost per click prices to soar, virtually knocking you out of the auction space and competing during the holiday shopping season. That is why tracking and monitoring your ad’s quality score in […]
