Google Gains Try Again Button For Discussion Results

A reader sent me a new Google search results feature, which is only activated once you visit a web page from Google and then click the back button to go back to Google’s search results.

Follow these steps:

(1) Search for [smiley html code]

(2) Click on the first result, which is forum.yola.com

(3) Click the back button in your browser after the forum loads

(4) Look at the Google search results, you will see they added “Get more discussion results” link to the top search result.

First the search result looked like this:

Google Back Button Feature

After clicking back from the result, back to the search results:

Google Back Button Feature

When you click that link, it takes you to an advanced search filter for discussions results.

Hat tip goes to Pizza SEO for spotting this and sending it to me.

Postscript: Google sent me a statement on this:

This is indeed a new feature we started testing on Monday. It’s meant to give users who click on a result, visit a web page, then click back, the opportunity to discover more information of that same type. Think of it as us showing the user relevant search options when they click back on a result that belongs to one of the search options categories such as…”Discussions”

I was expecting you to say that the “bad” search result disappeared after the back button – that would seem to make more sense, right?

Particularly, I think that is good and very interesting.

It’s common for results of forums are very similar and all the results of one source can’t be listed at once. If Google identifies that the user visited a forum and has this habit, I think it’s interesting that this change occurs in the SERP. :)
