Google Search now says it’s critical to manually factcheck and review all AI-generated content for accuracy and trustworthiness
Google updated its Google Search’s guidance on using generative AI content on your website help document to say it is “critical” to manually review and fact-check all AI-generated content to ensure it is accurate and trustworthy before you publish that content on your site.
What is new. Google posted in the help document these new lines of text:
- “Keep in mind that generative models don’t retrieve facts, but predict a likely sequence of words based on their training data.”
- “Because of this, generative AI outputs may contain inaccuracies (also known as hallucinations).”
Then Google added this next line:
- “It is critical to manually factcheck and review all AI-generated content for accuracy and trustworthiness before publishing.”
Critical. Google used the word “critical” here, which it likely doesn’t use lightly. You must manually review all the AI-generated content on your site before you publish it to make sure it is fact-checked, to make sure it is accurate, and to make sure it is trustworthy.
Here is a screenshot of what changed:

Why the change. Google said, “To get our documentation in sync with our presentations we use at our developer events.”
Why we care. There are many who believe they can just automate publishing of AI-generated content on their websites and not review it. Google here is saying not to do that, in fact, Google is saying it is “critical” to review the content manually before you publish it.
We currently have the September 2026 spam update rolling out, which may be targeting some forms of automated, scalable content techniques – some that publish AI-generated content without review. So be careful.
