On Easter Google Honors The Life Of Cesar Chavez With Logo

If you visit Google today, on Easter Sunday, you will see a logo for Cesar Chavez. Cesar Chavez, who died in 1993, would have been 86 years old today. He is most well known for his work as a Latino American civil rights activist. He was also co-founder of the National Farm Workers Association and a labor leader.

Chavez was a Roman Catholic who had major influence and respect throughout America and the Latino community.

On his 86th birthday and on Easter Sunday, Google pays respect to his contributions with a Google Logo, aka Google Doodle.

I must say, some are not happy not to see a fun Easter logo on Google’s home page today.

Easter hasn’t been featured in a Google Doodle since 2000, I believe. The doodles aren’t just to commemorate holidays, but to “celebrate the lives of artists, pioneers and scientists.” http://www.google.com/doodles/about

Google should recognize Easter being the resurrection of Jesus.

Cesar Chavez was a dedicated Christian. I remember that he would often take communion prior to his protests, and Catholic Priests would often march beside him. Chavez’s faith extended beyond going to Sunday services, and taking actions based upon the teachings of Jesus.

    How is this a “dis”?

What would Cesar Chavez do (“WWCCD”)? Would he, as a devout Christian Catholic man, want to be honored over Jesus on Easter? Probably not. It’s a bit like Google honoring another African-American man on MLK Day (which Google does Doodle about each year, BTW). Seems Google prefers more obscure religious holidays related to death (like Halloween and “Day of the Dead”…really?) over those that celebrate life and are celebrated by BILLIONS worldwide.

So why not honor the person Chavez honored on such a sacred day as Easter? Would Chavez want himself honored on Easter over Jesus? Doubtful.

Google honored Sesame Street for a ridiculous 12 days in 2009, so you’d think the “only Son of God” might catch a break and get a day?
    http://www.google.com/doodles/finder/2009/All%20doodles That was the
same year they also honored another peace-loving spiritual leader,
http://www.google.com/doodles/birthday-of-mohandas-karamchand-gandhi. Jesus preached love, peace and non-violence almost 2,000 years earlier. But he’s not worthy of a day? Really?

Why should they be considered to be mutually exclusive?

  • Unbound Marketing

    Jesus probably wouldn’t mind.
