Great Article Adam – thanks for putting these tips together. Best of luck at SMX

Adam this is one of the best articles on SEO for ecommerce I have read in quite some time! No tricks just the basic webmaster tasks that make the difference between a store people buy on and one they browse and quickly take off. Not many SEO’s understand how re-writing urls and excessive redirects hurt the performance of servers and drain finite resources. I thought most of your advice was useful for out of the box programs like magento, however, in that case the dupes are a lot harder to control though canonical looks interestiing as a fix. I know this is a enterprise column but… I know this sort of cloumn could help many beginners as well.

@Webmaster T – thanks, it’s great to get feedback from an old pro like yourself! On your point about re-writing and redirecting URLs and latency – too true, I’m surprised it doesn’t get more attention from SEOs.

    Hey Adam,

Great writeup and insights into the ever changing world of ecommerce! The formatting and screenshots made it easy to scan and follow along. I liked the fact that you backed up your findings with examples and used headings to organize the article sections. I agree with Web T, definitely one of the best I’ve read in awhile too! Also enjoyed how you steered away from the ho hum topics that everyone covers. Great job. Look forward to more juicy topics and insights from you in the future. Congrats on the columnist position, you deserve it!
